Srimad Bhagavat Gita commentary chapter 9 verse 12

 Chapter 9 verse 12

Of vain hopes, of vain actions, of vain knowledge and senseless (devoid of discrimination), they are possessed of the delusive nature of raksasas and asuras”

Forgetting the source of ourselves leads us to wrongful actions and thoughts. Lord is talking about beings that lose their way due to inappropriate actions, wrong thinking and action without viveka (discrimination). These attributes descend beings to the state of demons and devils (raksasas and asuras). Human beings can easily descend to this existence if we don’t pay attention to our behavior. The devas and asuras live amongst us. Let us not even strive to be devas which is an inferior striving. Why don’t we strive to merge with the divine principle.
