Chapter 17 verse 17
“When devout persons with ardent faith practice these three-fold austerities without yearning for material rewards, they are designated as austerities in the mode of goodness.”
When
the austerity of body, speech and mind are done with no expectation of material
rewards, the austerities are said to be performed in sattvic mode or mode of
goodness. For that to happen, the person has to have immense faith in the
divine and striving always to purify their existence.
