Srimad Bhagavat Gita commentary chapter 10 verse 10

 Chapter 10 verse 10

To those whose minds are always united with me in loving devotion, I give the divine knowledge by which they can attain me.”

In keeping with what the Lord said earlier in chapter 3 about karma yoga, only the effort is your material hands, the result is His grace. One needs to have prasada buddhi. Who gets his grace? Is it random and arbitrary? NO. Nothing in this beautiful universe created and sustained by Him is arbitrary. The qualification to obtain His grace rests with us to exhibit utmost devotion and sincerity towards path ordained by Him. How is it possible to comprehend the vastness of the Lord when our material realm is limited. Hence the prayer is only to receive His divine grace to achieve this ultimate GOAL.

Srimad Bhagavat Gita commentary chapter 10 verse 9

 Chapter 10 verse 9

With their minds fixed on me and their lives surrendered to me, my devotees remain ever contented in me. They derive great satisfaction and bliss in enlightening one another about me, and conversing about my glories.”

This is a great verse which exemplifies the need to surrender body, mind, and intellect complex to divine. When His devotees have surrendered thus, they are able to enliven their lives by being equipoise about ups and downs and highs and lows in life. They get a lot of satisfaction from being in Satsang- singing, talking and thinking about Him.

Srimad Bhagavat Gita commentary chapter 10 verse 8

 Chapter 10 verse 8

I am the origin of all creation. Everything proceeds from me. The wise who know this perfectly worship me with great faith and devotion.”

If one knows who is the creator, sustainer and destroyer of all things in the Universe, then all of us will definitely would want to be in the good books of this entity. The Lord declares unequivocally that He is that one. Therefore having the good fortune of knowing this ultimate truth, beings would automatically surrender to Him. Those beings that get to know Him are indeed wise. They have converted information to knowledge and knowledge to wisdom.

Srimad Bhagavat Gita commentary chapter 10 verse 7

 Chapter 10 verse 7

Those who know in truth my glories and divine powers become united with me through unwavering bhakti yoga. Of this there is no doubt.”

All 4 forms of yoga-karma, ashtanga, jnana and bhakti rely on focus and alignment of body, mind, intellect and spirit. The key is to remain “unwavering” and pointed in the focus of all energies towards Self realization and/or surrender to Divine. The way these paths are interpreted is the difference. When done right, they all lead to the same state- eternal bliss and dwelling in the realization that the part and the whole are not different and everyone and everything is complete in itself/himself or herself. Lord says that when one dwell’s in His glory, they reach Him-there is no doubt in that declaration!

Srimad Bhagavat Gita commentary chapter 10 verse 6

 Chapter 10 verse 6

The seven great Sages, the four great Saints before them, and the fourteen Manus, are all born from my mind. From them, all the people in the world have descended.”

All things in the multi-verse originated from Supreme Being. Brahma came from the material energy of Narayana. Brahma had 4 immortal sons-sanaka, sanatana, sanata, sanandana. Then there were 7 rishis and 14 manus. There is supposed to be a brahma and rest of this setup for every universe that Lord has created and there are multi-verses. All these entities have a beginning and an end, limits and limitations. Supreme Lord does not have any limitations. Everything emerges from Him and dissolves into Him.

Srimad Bhagavat Gita commentary chapter 10 verse 4-5

 Chapter 10 verse 4-5

From me alone arise the varieties in the qualities amongst humans, such as intellect, knowledge, clarity of thought, forgiveness, truthfulness, control over the senses and mind, joy and sorrow, birth and death, fear and courage, non-violence, equanimity, contentment, austerity, charity, fame, and infamy.”

Lord declares that following qualities and states emanate from Him alone based on the receptiveness of person with the filter of their Vasanas, effect of past karma and present disposition. I realized only today that Adi Shankara’s 4 pillars of knowledge in his vivekachudamani including sama, dama, tithiksha, uparathi, vairagya, viveka etc., originally came from Krishna’s teaching in Bhagavat Gita. Again everything including the Vedas came from Him. Again below is direct quote from Swami Mukundananda with a few of my additions.

Srimad Bhagavat Gita commentary chapter 10 verse 3

 Chapter 10 verse 3

Those who know me as unborn and beginning less, and as the Supreme Lord of the universe, they among mortals are free from illusion and released from all evils.”

In the previous verse, Lord said it is not possible to know him completely by any mortal. However he adds that by his sheer Grace and through the surrender to Him, beings can be given his divine vision as the Lord of the multi-verse, the omniscient, omnipresent entity who governs everything. With this grace and vision, beings are able to realize Him and attain moksha and/or jivan mukta-release from consequences of any past, present or future actions.
